Yep, we've been fooled again, and by a late-night TV host, no less.

Remember that video of the girl whose impromptu twerking session in her apartment ends with her in flames? In less than one week, the 36-second clip has been viewed more than 9.3 million times on YouTube and was picked up by countless media outlets around the world.

Now we learn the whole thing was a hoax, orchestrated by late-night jokester Jimmy Kimmel.

On Monday night's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host revealed that he was responsible for the video, which stars stuntwoman Daphne Avalon as the flaming twerker.

In his own humble manner, Kimmel gleefully pointed out that the fake video was posted with virtually no promotion on social media, yet still managed to generate a massive number of views.

Kimmel said: "Even though the video was fake, that did not stop hundreds of news outlets from showing it. Some people even blamed Miley Cyrus, as if this was her fault."

Cyrus, you'll recall, caused a stir a few weeks back with her raunchy rendition of the twerk dance while performing at the MTV Video Music Awards.

To prove his twerk video was a phony, Kimmel had the twerkee herself on his show as a guest. In her brief interview segment, Avalon acknowledged that many people who know her, including a high-school boyfriend, believed the video was the real thing.

Kimmel also aired a selection of clips from news programs who reported on the bogus video, including CBS's The Talk and ABC's The View.

And the goal of the comedian's little experiment? To draw the curtain on the most annoying dance craze since the Macarena

As Kimmel told Avalon: "Thank you for helping us deceive the world and hopefully put an end to twerking forever."

Amen to that, brother.
