A spokesman for the minister said she did not know when the offence had occurred, but Mr. Stone told The Province newspaper it was three weeks ago.

Mr. Stone also told the newspaper he was travelling 29 km/h over the posted 80 km/h speed zone.

In the statement, Mr. Stone said he was aware his conduct was inappropriate.

"As minister, I must set a better example and this was unacceptable," Mr. Stone said.
