Clark red-faced over red-light traffic violation

The news that Liberal Leader Christy Clark ran a red light when taking her son to a hockey practice early one morning has become a talking point in the British Columbia election campaign.

The incident was revealed in a profile of Ms. Clark in the Vancouver Sun on the weekend.

In portraying the close relationship she has with her son, Hamish, the story described how he egged her on when she pulled up to an empty intersection at 5:15 a.m., while taking him to a goalie clinic.

"Let's see you go through this red light," he challenged. And she did.

NDP Leader Adrian Dix, who last year took a pounding from the Liberals for being caught on the SkyTrain without a ticket, told CKNW he isn't going to make an issue out of the red light.

"The Liberals, as you know, ran a very significant number of very negative ads on the SkyTrain thing. I'm not going to engage in that kind of thing," he said.

On Sunday, Ms. Clark apologized. "I shouldn't have done it, and I certainly shouldn't have done it with my son in the car," she told reporters.
