Live chat: What responsibilities do media outlets have when reporting on suicides?

Should reporting on suicides, especially among youth, be held to a special set of standards? What guidelines for media are the right ones? And is such a set of rules realistic in the social media age?

These are some of the questions that were raised when the Vancouver School Board passed a motion to encourage media outlets to be more responsible in its reporting on suicides after high-profile cases in recent months, including the death of Amanda Todd.
