A coroner's office says a 55-year-old Seattle man is dead after a British Columbia paragliding accident.

The B.C. Coroners Service said John Clifford was competing on Monday in the Canadian Paragliding National Championships in Pemberton, B.C., when something went wrong and he ended up in the Lillooet River.

Search and rescue crews were dispatched immediately but didn't find Mr. Clifford until a day later because of severe weather.
