Accused filmmaker had 1,600-plus photos related to man's death, court hears

A police forensics expert says he found 1,644 pictures relating to the death of an Edmonton man on accused murderer Mark Twitchell's laptop computer.

Constable Mike Roszko told the jury at Twitchell's first-degree murder trial that the pictures were found on the hard drive using powerful software normally used to find hidden images of child pornography.

Const. Roszko says the photos included women from a dating website as well as images of weapons, an incinerator and from Dexter, a TV show about a serial killer.

The Crown contends that Mr. Twitchell used bogus postings on an Internet dating website to lure Johnny Altinger to a garage where he killed him, cut him up and burned the remains in a barrel before dumping them into a sewer.

On Monday, Const. Roszko read a first-person account from Mr. Twitchell's computer that describes how a serial killer murdered a man in a garage, dismembered the body and then burned the remains in a barrel.

The Crown says it believes that Mr. Twitchell was the author.
