An Air France Boeing 777 with 281 passengers on board landed safely today in St. John's, N.L., after declaring an emergency for a technical issue.

The plane is a twin-engine jet airliner that was headed to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.

Marie Manning, a spokeswoman for the St. John's International Airport Authority, says it will be up to the crew to determine if it can take off again.

Emergency crews responded to the landing, as is standard procedure, but Manning says it's for Air France to offer more detail on the technical problem.

A spokesperson for Air France could not be immediately reached.
