Newfoundland and Labrador's next government will take power on Dec. 14.

Premier-designate Dwight Ball held a news conference in St. John's Wednesday morning after meeting with the province's lieutenant-governor to discuss the transition of power after the Liberals swept to victory in Monday's election.

Ball says he and a 12-member cabinet will be sworn in on Dec. 14 and MHAs will be sworn in on Dec. 18.

He says his party will stand by its campaign promise to reverse a two percentage point increase in the HST, and a letter giving that direction to finance department officials has been written.

"That letter is ready to go and we will be sending that letter to reverse the HST," he said.

Ball says he has yet to see any financial documents concerning the province's projected more than $1 billion deficit for 2015-16.

The Liberals took 31 of a possible 40 seats during Monday night's election.
