The Federation of Francophone and Acadian Communities has asked the Federal Court for a judicial review of the federal Conservative government's decision to scrap the mandatory long-form census, sources said Monday.
The federation, which will be one of the witnesses at a Commons committee Tuesday where the issue will be discussed, argues the decision is an infringement of its Charter rights.
The long-form census provides information that dictates where official languages services are provided. The federation will also be asking the government for the money needed to finance its court action.
