A police spokesman said emergency responders were called to the Confederation Building at 3:50 pm ET Thursday.

Authorities aren't saying much.

At 8:20 pm Thursday evening they reported that the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives Unit completed an on scene analysis of the package and deemed the area safe.

"The package has now been seized by police for further investigation," Staff-Sergeant Brad Hampson with the Ottawa Police Service said.
