Drake to receive key to Toronto from John Tory on Friday

Toronto Mayor John Tory plans to give hometown rap star Drake the key to the city on Friday.

Tory announced the news along with a video and a series of posts explaining the choice on his Twitter account on Thursday.

He wrote that he recently spent time with Drake, who told him he wants to contribute to the city and become "a force of good" for it.

Tory said Drake wants to build the city's music scene, inspire its youth and help address its social issues.

Drake will be in town for this weekend's star-studded NBA all-star festivities, including his role as coach for Canada's team at Friday's celebrity game.

On Monday, the 29-year-old former "Degrassi: The Next Generation" star will be up for five Grammy Awards, including best rap album for "If You're Reading This It's Too Late."

And in April, he's set to release his highly anticipated new album "Views From the 6."

"This is a man who has achieved wild success, by any standard. And more than anything, he wants great things for Toronto," Tory said on Twitter. "This is a man who could live anywhere, but calls Toronto home. He wants us to be proud of him. And we are. I am."
