The man accused of killing a Toronto police sergeant with a stolen snowplow was remanded in custody during a brief court appearance on Thursday.

Richard Kachkar, 44, appeared by video and the case was put over to April 14.

His lawyer told the court that disclosure material had been received from the Crown.

Mr. Kachkar is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Sergeant Ryan Russell.

Mr. Kachkar was shot and arrested Jan. 12 after Sgt. Russell was hit while trying to stop the plow.

Sgt. Russell, 35, left behind a wife and two-year-old son.
