A man suffered minor injuries after he was struck by falling glass from the Shangri-La hotel in Toronto Tuesday.

Police responded to the call just before noon when a pane of glass fell from a balcony in the hotel at University Avenue and Adelaide Street West and hit the 53-year-old man, Const. Victor Kwong said.

He estimated it fell from a height of 15 storeys.

The man was taken to hospital with minor injuries after he was able to walk into the lobby of the hotel, Kwong said.

A single glass pane could be seen missing from the railing of a balcony in the hotel and a man swept up small shards of glass from the sidewalk below.

Dennis Michael Chan was riding his bicycle home from lunch when he rode over the glass, puncturing his bike wheels.

"It was pretty much a few metres of glass sprawled across the street here," he said. "Pretty big pieces. Big enough to unfortunately destroy my bike tire."
