Two pedestrians in hospital after being hit by TTC buses in separate crashes

Toronto police are investigating after two people were struck by TTC buses in separate accidents in less than 24 hours.

A woman in a wheelchair was taken to hospital with a leg injury after being hit by a bus near Queen Street East and Leslie Street Wednesday afternoon.

EMS officials said her injuries are serious but non-life threatening.

Police said the woman was briefly stuck underneath the bus, which was turning when it struck her around 2:30 p.m.

The bus driver, who was in distress, was also taken to hospital, said Constable Tony Vella.

Meanwhile, an 82-year-old woman remains in critical condition after being pinned beneath a bus near Ossington Avenue and Dupont Street Tuesday night.

The woman's right leg was crushed beneath the front tires of the bus around 8:30 p.m.

Police are still investigating what caused the accidents. No charges have been laid yet.

The TTC says it is waiting for the results of the police investigation before taking action.

"We work very closely with police in all cases to understand what happened and then take whatever action necessary on our part to prevent recurrence," said spokesman Brad Ross.

"There might be some action we can take advising our drivers, or if we need to deal with the individual employee, if they're considered to be at fault, we'll deal with that."
