British PM 'forgets' daughter, 8, at country pub

British Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife mistakenly left their eight-year-old daughter behind following lunch at a country pub recently.

"The PM and wife Samantha were distraught when they realised Nancy wasn't with them," his office confirmed in a statement, according to British media.

"Thankfully when they phoned the pub, she was there safe and well.

"The PM went down straight away to get her."

Mr. Cameron and his family were spending the weekend at Chequers, the country home of British prime ministers in Buckinghamshire.

The couple and their three children had lunch at the nearby Plough Inn on Sunday with two other families.

According to accounts in the Sun and the Daily Mail, their eldest child, Nancy, went to the toilet as the group was departing.

Mr. Cameron rode in one car and his wife in another vehicle, each parent assuming that Nancy was with the other.

Nancy was left at the pub for 15 minutes before her father rode back to the red-brick pub to fetch her.

The Sun quoted a Plough Inn "insider" saying that the pub staff found Nancy in the toilet and didn't know what to do.

"It's not like you can look up David Cameron in the phone book and then ring to say, 'You've left your daughter behind.'

"It's frightening the Prime Minister of Britain can forget something so important as his own daughter.
