Book by Globe’s Sean Silcoff nominated for national award

A book co-authored by The Globe and Mail's Sean Silcoff has made the short list of nominations for the National Business Book Award.

The book, Losing the Signal: The Spectacular Rise and Fall of BlackBerry, was written by Mr. Silcoff and former Globe reporter Jacquie McNish.

Losing the Signal covers the early days of Research in Motion as co-CEOs Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie developed the technology that transformed the way people communicate. It also focuses on the challenges the company went through as rival products chipped away at BlackBerry's dominance.

The two other books that made the short list are; Mass Disruption: Thirty Years on the Front Lines of a Media Revolution, by former Globe and Mail editor-in-chief John Stackhouse; and The Inequality Trap: Fighting Capitalism Instead of Poverty, by William Watson.

The short-listed authors are vying for a $30,000 prize and the winner will be announced on April 21 in Toronto.
