Manufacturing sales fall 0.3%

Statistics Canada says manufacturing sales declined 0.3 per cent to $49.1-billion in February, following a decrease in January.

The agency says sales were down in the motor vehicle assembly, food and motor vehicle parts industries.

Those declines were mostly offset by increases in the aerospace product and parts, non-metallic mineral products and petroleum and coal products industries.

Sales decreased in 11 of 21 industries representing approximately 64 per cent of manufacturing.

Sales of durable goods rose 0.2 per cent while sales of non-durable goods fell 0.8 per cent.

In constant dollar terms, manufacturing sales fell 0.1 per cent in February, indicating a decrease in the volume of manufactured goods.
