Enbridge Inc. says it has purchased a 103-megawatt wind farm under development in West Virginia for about $200-million (U.S.) from EverPower Wind Holdings LLC.

The Calgary-based pipeline operator, which has been increasing its stake in the clean energy sector, said Wednesday it is aiming to have the New Wind Creek project in operation by December 2016.

Earlier this month, Enbridge announced it was investing C$750-million for a one-quarter interest in a 400-megawatt U.K. offshore wind project.

The Rampion Offshore Wind Project, being developed in partnership with a company called E.ON, is expected to be running in 2018.

Including the West Virginia acquisition, Enbridge said it has invested about C$5-billion in renewable power generation and transmission since 2002.

The company now has interests in nearly 2,000 MW of net renewable generating capacity operating, secured or under construction.
