Talisman Energy Inc., the oil and gas company which abruptly parted ways with its chief executive last week, lost a senior vice president to a competitor Tuesday.

TAQA North Ltd., Abu Dhabi National Energy Co.'s Canadian division, tapped Edward LaFehr to take over as its president. Mr. LaFehr is currently a senior vice-president at Talisman. (His LinkedIn profile says he leads Talisman's conventional energy business in North America, and joined the Calgary-based company less than a year ago).

Mr. LaFehr spent years working for BP Plc, working on projects around the globe.

TAQA's current president, Frédéric Lesage, will become the company's chief strategy officer when Mr. LaFehr joins TAQA Oct. 9.

Hal Kvisle was named Talisman's CEO in a surprise announcement last week, replacing John Manzoni. Mr. Kvisle plans to carve off chunks of the company, making the global energy outfit smaller.
