Canadian National Railway says a tentative contract with one of its major unions has failed to get the required support.

The Montreal-based company says it's disappointed and has agreed to meet with labour leaders next week to discuss how to move forward.

The contract was negotiated by the Teamsters union on behalf of about 3,000 train conductors, yard workers and other employees at CN.

The union has yet to issue a public statement of its own.
