Bobby Butler's time in the nation's capital is over.

The Ottawa Senators announced Friday that the club has bought out the remainder of the forward's contract, which was set to run through the end of the 2012-13 season.

Expected to fill a spot on Ottawa's top two lines, the Marlborough, Mass., native appeared in 94 games over three seasons but never lived up to expectations. The 25-year-old had 16 goals and 21 assists and was held pointless in three playoff games.
