'Canes hope to have Jeff Skinner back on Sunday

Jeff Skinner was on the ice and going through drills Saturday morning, but the Carolina Hurricanes forward wasn't expected to return until at least Sunday, the team announced.

Skinner would miss his 16th straight game with a concussion when the Hurricanes played Saturday night against the Boston Bruins.

But after monitoring him through the team's morning skate, the Hurricanes opted to give him a little more time.

"If there's any question mark or any uncertainty, we want to make sure he's 100 percent," coach Kirk Muller told reporters.

With the Hurricanes playing two straight days, the club decided to see if Skinner could instead go against the Washington Capitals on Sunday.

"He had another workout today," Muller said. "We have back-to-back games here, so hopefully we will get him ready for tomorrow."

Skinner has 24 points, with 12 goals, in 30 games this season.
