Jets lose to Ducks, head home down 2-0 in series

For the second straight game the Winnipeg Jets blew a third-period lead. The result is a two games to none series deficit.

The Jets allowed a goal with 19.8 seconds remaining in regulation time to lose 2-1 to the Anaheim Ducks in Game 2 Saturday night at Honda Center.

The series returns to Winnipeg for Game 3 Monday night at MTS Centre.

Jakob Silfverberg scored the winner in the game's final minute after Patrick Maroon scored on the power play earlier in the third. Frederik Andersen stopped 28 shots for the win.

Jets goaltender Ondrej Pavelec did his best to will his team to a victory, making 37 saves including many spectacular ones.

Adam Pardy scored Winnipeg's only goal on a night penalty trouble crept up again.

The hits kept on coming for the Jets and Ducks, with the intensity just as high as it was in Anaheim's Game 1 victory Thursday. Discipline got away from Winnipeg with two penalties in the first seven minutes.

High-sticking calls on Pardy and Tyler Myers forced the Jets to kill 23 seconds of a five-on-three power play. Pavelec stopped a blast from Corey Perry from close range, and the Jets survived.

The Ducks controlled the play through the first, but the Jets took over in the second. Pavelec did his job, a shot by Anaheim's Hampus Lindholm hit the post and then Pardy went to work.

The journeyman defenceman dangled around Kyle Palmieri, hit the outside of the net and corralled it to tuck a perfect wrap-around shot between Andersen and the post. The Ducks were incensed because Lee Stempniak was in the crease, but officials allowed the goal because Ryan Kesler shoved the Winnipeg forward into the blue paint.

Pardy was a healthy scratch in Game 1 and a surprise choice to replace Ben Chiarot for Game 2. The goal was his first since Jan. 26, 2011, when he was with the Calgary Flames — ending a 172-game drought.

Mathieu Perreault, who missed Game 1 with a lower-body injury, picked up the primary assist for dishing the puck to Pardy. Minutes later, Perreault left the game after being shoved shoulder-first into the post by Rickard Rakell but returned later in the third.

Trying to hold on to the lead against Ducks, who are third-period specialists, Pavelec made three saves in 12 seconds. He got help from the post minutes later.

With captain Andrew Ladd in the penalty box for high-sticking, Jacob Trouba slid in the way of a shot on the kill, but Anaheim kept coming. Maroon deflected Cam Fowler's point shot past Pavelec on the Ducks' 36th shot of the game to tie it with 9:17 left.

Things devolved for the Jets leading to Silfverberg's winner.

Notes: Perreault replaced Matt Halischuk in the Jets' lineup. ... Anaheim centre Ryan Kesler took two penalties, one for a hit to the head of Myers and one for an elbow on Tobias Enstrom.
