Glenn Howard continues to dominate Dominion Tankard

Glenn Howard needed just six ends to crush his closest rival at the Dominion Tankard Ontario men's curling championship.

His other matches were even shorter.

Howard's Coldwater rink improved to 7-0 after an 11-1 rout of Brampton's Peter Corner in Wednesday's late draw, all but guaranteeing the defending six-time champion a spot in the playoffs.

Howard took a 4-0 lead after three ends. Corner scored one in the fourth, but Howard stormed back with four in the fifth end then put the game away with a steal of three in the sixth.

Both Howard and Corner came into Wednesday's action undefeated, but Corner suffered a pair of defeats and fell to 4-2.

The win over Corner was Howard's third rout of the day. He opened Wednesday by scoring three in the first end and four in the fourth in a 7-1 rout of Woodstock's Wayne Tuck Jr.

He followed that with a four-end 5-0 win over Arnprior's Chris Gardiner. Howard scored three in the first end, then added steals in the third and fourth ends to put a quick to the match.

Corner opened with a 6-4 loss to Listowel's Daryl Shane, then scored one in the 10th end for a tight 6-5 win over Harriston's Jake Higgs before losing to Howard.

Thornhill's Mike Anderson moved into a tie for second place with Corner, defeating Gardiner 7-6 in nine ends.

Brampton's Dayna Deruelle, who got off to a rough start in the tournament, moved into a three-way tie for fourth with a 9-5 win over Tuck.

Bryan Cochrane kept pace with Deruelle with his second win of the day, 9-1 over Mark Kean of Ajax in four ends.

Deruelle, Cochrane and the idle Greg Balsdon are tied at 3-3.

Higgs cruised to an 11-4 win over Shane in the late draw to improve to 3-4.

Gardner and Shane are at 2-4, while Kean and Tuck are fading at 2-5.
