Three Canadians – Olympics-bound Brent Hayden of Mission, B.C.,, Barbara Jardin of Montreal and Audrey Lacroix of Pont-Rouge, Que., – mounted the podium as the Mare Nostrum circuit completed its second night at Canet-en-Rousillon in France. In the men's 100-metre freestyle, Hayden clocked 49.00 seconds to win the silver medal, beaten to the wall by Hanser Garcia of Cuba in 48.89.

"I knew Yannick was going to be tough and I was really happy that I held him off. I went faster here than in Barcelona on the weekend and I just want to keep getting better."

In the women's 400-metre freestyle, Camille Muffat of France set a meet record of 4:02.97 with Jardin a distant second in 4:09.46.
