David Brown, P.Eng., BDS, C.E.T., IntPE, MCSCE, President, Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)

David Brown, P.Eng., BDS, C.E.T., IntPE, MCSCE, assumed office as the 99th president of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) at the association’s annual general meeting on April 21. He was elected by PEO members in 2017 to lead its 87,500 licence and certificate holders.

Mr. Brown is a senior managing partner and practising structural engineer with TaskForce Engineering Inc., a Belleville-based design-build firm he co-founded in 1994.

An avid supporter of succession planning as a governance best practice, Mr. Brown is a veteran volunteer leader with PEO and the engineering community. He has served the association as its vice president and as an Eastern Region councillor, as well as on PEO’s Human Resources, Finance and Elliot Lake Advisory committees, among others. He also represents PEO on the boards of Engineers Canada and the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists.

Mr. Brown holds a diploma in civil engineering technology from St. Clair College of Applied Arts and Technology and a bachelor of applied science in civil engineering from Queen’s University. Aside from his service to PEO, he has volunteered extensively within his community—in particular, with the United Way, where he was both a board member and chair of the 2013 Campaign Committee.

Under the authority of the Professional Engineers Act, PEO governs over 87,500 licence and certificate holders and regulates professional engineering in Ontario. PEO’s mission is to regulate and advance the practice of engineering to protect the public interest. Its vision is to be the trusted leader in professional self-regulation. Professional engineering safeguards life, health, property, economic interests, the public welfare and the environment. Professional engineers can be identified by the P.Eng. after their names. Holders of limited licences can be identified by LEL or LET after their names.
