Rose Patten, O.C., LL.D., Chancellor, The University of Toronto

The University of Toronto is pleased to announce that Rose Patten, O.C., LL.D., has been elected to serve as its next Chancellor. Taking office on July 1, 2018, she will be the University’s 34th Chancellor since its founding in 1827.

Dr. Patten is Special Advisor to the CEO and Senior Executives at BMO Financial Group. At U of T, she is Executive in Residence and Adjunct Professor in executive leadership programs at the Rotman School of Management, a member of the Boundless campaign executive and a member of Massey College. She served on the University’s Governing Council for nine years, from 1998 to 2007, including three years as its Chair.

Among her many awards and honours, in 2009 Dr. Patten received the degree Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, from U of T for her “leadership as a role model for women executives in Canadian banking, dedicated community volunteerism, and exceptional service to the University of Toronto.” In 2017 she was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada.
