Michael Thor is the lead Portfolio Manager for the Thor Wealth Management Group at TD Wealth Private Investment Advice. He specializes in managing the complex financial affairs and daily investments for individuals, corporate investment accounts and trusts. Michael was born and raised in Ottawa. That’s where he began his journey in the financial services industry in 1991, holding management positions at a major Canadian bank. In 1995, Michael moved to Georgian Bay (Midland, Ontario) to advance his career and follow his passion for investment management.

Since 2005, as an active Portfolio Manager, Michael has taken an investment approach that is tailored to each client’s unique set of needs. He follows a disciplined investment strategy with a tax-efficient approach to investing. Michael does not look to beat the market by taking an outsized position in a single or a few investments. Instead, he takes a risk priority investment approach.

Michael often acts as a coach with clients, particularly when it comes to managing emotions that may arise with investing and withstanding market volatility. He helps clients build portfolios with tax-efficient income, all while seeking to protect the purchasing power of investment capital and capital appreciation.

Now approaching 30 years of investment industry experience, Michael believes building a good team of professionals is fundamental for true holistic wealth management. Along with his spouse, Sarah, an Associate Portfolio Manager, Michael and his team strive to deliver on all fronts. That includes everything from developing a personalized wealth strategy as a key component of their client’s financial success, to offering the highest level of service. As a team, they remain focused on employing three underlying principles: responsibility, integrity and service excellence.

Michael is most proud of his long-term client relationships and earning his clients’ deepest trust, dating back to when he first moved to Midland in 1995.
