Travellers in several southern Ontario cities are being warned of hazardous winter weather and significant snowfall on Wednesday.

Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory as a band of snow that developed over western Lake Ontario moves inland Wednesday.

Between five and 10 centimetres of snow could fall throughout the day and into the evening.

The weather agency says the band of snow will be over Burlington in the early morning, moving over southwestern Toronto by mid-morning.

The snow is expected to drift south over Hamilton by the evening.

The agency is warning drivers to take caution and consider postponing non-essential trips.
