Nu Finish Scratch Doctor

Reed-Union, owner of Nu Finish car care products, has been haunting your TV for more than 40 years and boasts that it is the largest buyer of television advertising time in its category. But does that make its product worthy of your dollar?

We tested the Nu Finish Scratch Doctor on the scratches, rubs and deep gouges on the family car. We set to work, following the directions on the orange bottle and by watching the YouTube demo.

A dollop of cream on a clean soft cloth was rubbed in circular motions over the clean test spots. The scuffs were easy to erase. The fine lines took a couple of applications and rubbing to remove from sight. Under a lamp and looking closely, you could maybe see a hairline. However, from arm's-length, they were gone. The nasty deep scratches that you can feel when you drag a fingernail over are not going to go away, but after three applications, they're not as noticeable.

For the price, it's a decent quick fix for light blemishes.

Interestingly, almost every commercial in Reed-Union's archive says its products rank the highest in "independent laboratory tests," but the web page doesn't reveal the results.
