globe photojournalists:

Tory Zimmerman/The Globe and Mail

Like many of my colleagues I picked up photography at a young age. I think I was eleven when I unearthed an old 35mm camera from the front hall closet. It was around the same time that I discovered birds, spending hours lying on the ground waiting and watching, focusing on the tiny wings or raindrops on the tulips. Throughout my school years I applied my love of visual arts to both sculpture and photography. My relationship with photography is built around the idea of archiving. In sculpture I cast photos in resin as a literal way of preserving them. Now as a photojournalist I'm again sealing moments in time, whether still or moving images I am a witness, asking questions, and pressing record.
