The B.C. government is opening BC Ferries to more scrutiny - including the pay of its top executives - under legislation introduced in Victoria Thursday.

The government says the law will subject the ferry corporation to freedom of information legislation and ensure pay for Ferries executives and board members is on a similar level to that of other public-sector organizations.

This after the comptroller general revealed BC Ferries CEO David Hahn was making a million-dollar salary, almost double that of most Crown executives.

The new law will also include BC Ferry reservation fees in the price cap regulated by the Ferry Commission and allow the commission to regulate services where BC Ferries has an unfair competitive advantage.
