The woman convicted of killing 14-year-old Reena Virk under a Victoria bridge has cancelled her upcoming parole hearing.

Kelly Ellard, who was 15 when Ms. Virk was killed in 1997, was scheduled to be heard in February but the Parole Board of Canada says she's waived her right to a hearing.

Her next parole review has been scheduled for February 2013, unless she applies for an earlier date.

In June 2009 the Supreme Court of Canada restored a second-degree murder conviction from Ms. Ellard's third trial.

Ms. Ellard's co-accused, Warren Glowatski, was released on full parole last June, 10 years after he was convicted and after offering an apology to Virk's parents.

Ms. Virk was swarmed and brutally beaten by eight teens, most of them girls. She managed to get away, but Ms. Ellard and Mr. Glowatski followed her, continued to beat her, finally dragging her into the water and drowning her.
