TransLink has appointed one of its original executives, Ian Jarvis, as its permanent CEO, the transportation authority announced Sunday.

In a press release board chair Dale Parker said that although Jervis had only been interim CEO for three months, "he quickly demonstrated strong leadership."

With endorsement from TransLink's stakeholders the Board of Director's offered Jarvis a permanent position instead of searching for a new executive.

As one of TransLink's creators, Jarvis initially acted as both the Chief Financial Officer for both the GVRD and TransLink from 1999 to 2001. In June of 2001 he accepted a position as the Vice President of Finance.

Following former CEO Tom Prendergast's resignation, Jarvis became the interim CEO last November.

During last year's strike by HandyDart drivers, Jarvis defended TransLink's decision to contract out the service to MVT Canadian Bus Inc., a subsidiary of California-based MV Transportation.

The TransLink passenger service for disabled people was previously provided by local non profit societies.
