A Canadian entrepreneur and philanthropist has donated $26-million to the University of Western Ontario, designating a large chunk of the cash to help medical students.

Seymour Schulich's gift, considered to be the largest in the university's history, will provide scholarships to more than 100 students, many of whom are burdened with large debt loads by the time they graduate.

Scholarships will be awarded starting this fall to incoming students and those already studying at the medical school.
