The pie in the face delivered to Prime Minister Jean Chrétien in Charlottetown last August was the third major breach of security to occur since he took office in 1993.

In 1995, André Dallaire, a Montreal man diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic, got inside the Chrétiens' official Ottawa residence and was arrested outside their bedroom door.

In 1996, Mr. Chrétien faced protesters at a Flag Day ceremony in Hull, Que., and grabbed demonstrator Bill Clennett.

In both cases, RCMP vowed to tighten security around the Prime Minister. Videotapes of the Charlottetown incident show that two RCMP officers entered the civic centre ahead of him but didn't notice Evan Brown, who was hiding the pie under a heavy leather jacket that left him sweating on the sweltering August day.
