The father of a boy shot dead by his brother has been charged with unsafe storage of a firearm.

RCMP laid charge against the 34-year-old man from Sagkeeng First Nation after the November shooting of his nine-year-old son.

The boy was shot accidentally by his 14-year-old brother at their home, about 145 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.

The young boy was shot once and taken to hospital with upper body injuries, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The shooting shook the close-knit reserve and prompted a serious discussion about hunting safety.

RCMP say no further charges are anticipated.
