A man who claimed police had no valid reason to search his van has lost his B.C. Court of Appeal case and stands convicted of possession for the purpose of trafficking marijuana.

Clayton Ingle was stopped by an officer in Abbotsford who was looking for two men who attempted to steal a toolbox.

The officer smelled marijuana and found some orange garbage bags full of pot.

The appeal court ruled the officer had reasonable grounds to search because of the odour and garbage bags.
