The Ontario government is being sued for $300-million for breach of contract after cancelling a gas-fired electrical plant in Mississauga.

Energy Minister Chris Bentley is vowing to defend the allegations by Washington, D.C.-based EIG Management in court.

Premier Dalton McGuinty cancelled the controversial 280-megawatt plant in the middle of last fall's election campaign.

NDP energy critic Peter Tabuns says the Liberals did it for purely political reasons, and not because of changing energy needs.

And Progressive Conservative energy critic Vic Fedeli says the Liberals can't defend cancelling the plant.

The McGuinty government also cancelled another gas plant in Liberal-held Oakville in 2010.
