A Saskatchewan man has died after losing control of his snowmobile after it hit a coyote in the east-central part of the province.

Mounties say it happened Monday afternoon about 350 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon in the Chemong area.

Police say the 67-year-old man from Estevan area was thrown from the machine and he slammed into a tree.

RCMP say friends who were following him on their own snowmobiles found him partly buried in the snow, but he was not breathing.

Police have notified his next of kin, but they have not released his name.
