Five people who operate sushi restaurants in the Vancouver area are facing tax-evasion charges after an eight-month undercover investigation.

The Canada Revenue Agency alleges the accused used special computer software to erase or electronically suppress sales records at four restaurants.

The agency alleges a Richmond company, InfoSpec Systems, designed and sold the software.

It says undercover RCMP officers discovered the software while posing as potential buyers.

The four restaurants involved are Honjin Sushi and Kitsilano Sushi in Vancouver, and Sushi Man and Honjin Sushi in North Vancouver.
