We'll all recall that when the Prime Minister prorogued Parliament the apparent outrage that gripped the nation. Chief cheerleader for the anti-prorogation forces was Michael Ignatieff, who felt that Canadians were getting short changed because their main public forum for debate was needlessly closed. He railed loudly about the necessity for MPs of all stripes to be in Ottawa to discuss the matters of the day. Whether you agreed or disagreed with him, he was clear that this was his preferred course of action.

Now it appears yet again Mr. Ignatieff has had a change of heart. While Parliament is sitting this week Ignatieff is nowhere to be found in Ottawa - he is on an extended cross-country tour. Getting out of Ottawa is a sensible thing to do personally and politically; I do it myself often to preserve my sanity.

The Opposition Leader should travel and meet Canadians but equally he should be held to account for his rhetoric not meeting his actions. For all those who were angry that the Prime Minister closed Parliament, they shouldn't give Michael Ignatieff a pass for skipping town after he insisted so vehemently that he should be here.
