In an appearance on talk radio, AM640 host John Oakley asked Mr. Ford: ‘Have you used crack?’ Mr. Ford replied: ‘Johnny, listen, I’m not a drug addict, I’m not an alcoholic. … I can assure you, Johnny, I do not use drugs.’

Toronto Mayor Rob Ford admitted on Tuesday that he has smoked crack cocaine.

Mr. Ford has been asked about his drug use ever since reports surfaced in May of a video that allegedly shows him smoking crack cocaine. The mayor tended to frame his answers in the present tense.

"I wasn't lying," he told reporters on Tuesday. "You didn't ask the correct questions. No, I'm not an addict and no, I do not do drugs."

Here's a look at some of Mr. Ford's past comments about drug use:

May 17: "It's just ridiculous," he said the day after the video stories broke. "It's another Toronto Star...", he said before driving away.

May 24: "I do not use crack cocaine, nor am I an addict of crack cocaine," he told a news conference.

May 30: In a scrum with journalists, a reporter asked Mr. Ford: "Have you done any illegal drugs since you've been mayor?" Mr. Ford responded: "Anything else?"

June 13: Mr. Ford continued his practice of refusing to discuss the alleged video: "I've answered so many questions," he told reporters. "I don't know if you guys can't get it through your thick skulls. Seriously?"

Nov. 4: In an appearance on talk radio, AM640 host John Oakley asked Mr. Ford: "Have you used crack?" Mr. Ford replied: "Johnny, listen, I'm not a drug addict, I'm not an alcoholic. … I can assure you, Johnny, I do not use drugs."
