A 29-year-old Toronto man faces assault and robbery charges after a hold-up at Harold the Jewellery Buyer in Toronto.
Police allege the man struck an employee with a 9mm handgun around 3 p.m. last Friday while demanding that he hand over jewellery from behind the counter. The man then fled the store, located at Bathurst Street and Lawrence Avenue West, with some of the jewellery, they said.
The employee, an adult man, was taken to a hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Constable Tony Vella said the man's attacker appeared to be browsing the store innocently before he pulled out the gun.
"He was looking at some jewellery, and then suddenly he attacked the store employee," he said. "It's quite concerning because the employee was severely assaulted."
Toronto police would not say which store in the area was robbed, but a man who answered the phone at Harold the Jewellery Buyer on Tuesday confirmed the location.
Khan Facey, of Toronto, is charged with aggravated assault, robbery with a firearm, and careless storage of a firearm. He will appear in court on Saturday.
