DAYTIME

Aimia AGO Photography Prize

Shortlisted for a major Canadian prize for photography are four aim-and-click aficionados, including Dave Jordano, a Motown native whose Detroit – Unbroken Down series humanely documents the city’s downturn, focusing on the defiantly upbeat disenfranchised. Included among his subjects is Glemie (above), a bluesman who hunts raccoons in the urban wild, not for sport or lyrical inspiration but to survive.

To Jan. 3, 2016. $11 to $19.50. Art Gallery of Ontario, 317 Dundas St. W., 416-979-6648 or ago.net.

NIGHTTIME

Happy Place

Her Dora-winning debut effort Crash was about a rape survivor, and now the follow-up from playwright Pamela Mala Sinha looks at the courage, compassion and humour of seven women living with depression. And speaking of sophomore efforts, this drama is only the second new script the popular Soulpepper Theatre Company has ever produced. The first was Ins Choi’s hit comedy Kim’s Convenience, and didn’t that one work out well?

To Oct. 17, $29.50 to $94. Young Centre, 416-866-8666 or soulpepper.ca.

FOR THE KIDS

Treehouse Big Day Out

Do you know why it is so easy for kids to dance like they just don’t care? Because they really don’t care – at all, about anything. That preschool blitheness will be on display at concerts featuring the lighthearted music duo Splash’N Boots and the Australian tyke-rock quartet the Wiggles, those big-time favourites of the pint-sized, post-diaper set.

Sept. 12 and 13, 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. $39.25 to $122.75. Molson Amphitheatre, 909 Lake Shore Blvd. W., 855-985-5000 or ticketmaster.ca.

Spencer Burton

On his latest album, Don’t Let the World See Your Love, the rootsy troubadour sings about love and other things treasured and losable, with a mellow voice and a prospector’s beard that serves as a soft landing for any and all tears. His laments are graceful, his moon-lit melodies are easy on the ears and his flannel-shirt laments are the type once worn by the Please Come to Boston singer Dave Loggins.

Sept. 14, 12:30 p.m. Yonge-Dundas Square, masseyhall.com.

OUT OT TOWN

Prince Edward County Studio Tour

There’s more to the Southern Ontario destination than beaches, foodie havens and gently rolling hills. On the last two weekends of this month, the region will crawl with fans of painters, potters, and sculptors. Cycle, walk, drive or otherwise make your way to galleries and studios, where artists are at ease speaking about what’s on their easels.

Sept. 18 to 20, and Sept. 26 and 27. Free. Prince Edward County, Ont., pecstudiotour.com.
