The Los Angeles Police Department's booking photograph of O.J. Simpson appears on the covers of the June 27, 1994, issues of both Time and Newsweek magazines. Time's version, in which Simpson's skin appears darker, is credited as a “photo-illustration for Time by Matt Mahurin.” Newsweek's credit line for the image reads “Photo by Los Angeles Police Department.” “Time covers more often than not reflect something other than a news photo, because it is considered cover art,” said Nancy Kearney, speaking for the magazine.
