The Bank of Canada is advising all people who contribute to Canada Savings Bonds through their company payrolls to check their accounts for any hint of fraud. Two former employees of the private-sector company handling the savings accounts were arrested yesterday after the RCMP uncovered 16 cases of fraud and identity theft. The former employees -- who had been hired temporarily by EDS Canada, a business services company that handles the central bank's savings bond business -- are alleged to have stolen banking data, account details and personal information of eight bondholders. They are accused of using the information to fraudulently redeem the savings bonds, as well as apply for credit cards and cellphone accounts. More arrests are to come, police said.
