WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We'll do another stock screen for small-capitalization stocks today, similar to last Friday's on
fast-growing stocks on the TSX Venture Exchange. Today, we'll look for stocks on the senior
Toronto Stock Exchange with market caps under $250-million and at least 25-per-cent average compounded revenue and profit growth over the past three years.
TODAY'S SEARCH
We'll use The Globe and Mail's basic stock filter that is free at
ReportonBusiness.com/filters. We'll walk through the filter step by step.
First we'll leave the "Industry" setting at "All." We'll select
"Toronto Stock Exchange" under "Exchange." We'll leave "Security" and "Country" selected at "All." We'll leave all the "Price Performance Statistics,"
"Per Share Statistics" and
"Financial Strength Statistics" blank. We'll select a minimum 25 per cent for "Financial Growth Statistics" in both "3 Year %
Revenue Growth" and "3 Year % Profit Growth" (both use annual results).
Once you have generated that report, you can view the stocks from various angles by clicking on the "Price", "Financial" and "Estimate" boxes at the top of the list of stocks and by clicking on "$ Change," "Per Cent Change" and "5-Star Rating."
Furthermore, you can rank the stocks by clicking on various
column headers, such as
"Volume" or "1 Year % Change."
SO WHAT DID WE TURN UP?
The search turned up 34 companies. In viewing the list, we'll eliminate ones with stock symbols that have WT, which stands for warrants. We'll also eliminate ones that are closed-end funds or companies that have had large non-operating gains in the past three years. To get the list of companies down to a reasonable size to publish in this column, we took only ones that have at least 35-per-cent revenue and profit growth.
