The 12,500-square-foot oceanfront Bermuda-style home is listed for $35-million (U.S.)
'It’s one of a kind,' said Cristina Condon of Sotheby’s International Realty in Palm Beach, which is handling the sale. 'We have a lot of interested parties.'
The sprawling Bermuda-style home has nine bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, a pool, hot tub, night-lit tennis court, home theatre and a two-storey guest house.
Mr. Asper bought the house at 102 Canterbury Lane in 1997 for $7.5-million from auto dealer Roger Dean.
It was here that Mr. Asper first approached Conrad Black about buying Hollinger International Inc.’s chain of Canadian newspapers. Lord Black agreed and they code-named the deal 'A Canterbury Tale' after Mr. Asper’s house and Chaucer’s famous text.
The home became one of Izzy Asper's favourite haunts and he regularly ran CanWest Global Communications Corp. from the study which overlooks the ocean.
