The Long John Silver's seafood chain is returning to Canada, with the first of eight restaurants planned for this year opening in Peterborough, Ont., on Jan. 20. Franchise holder Priszm Brandz Inc. of Toronto said yesterday the chain will be "multibranded" with other fast-food outlets as it joins Priszm's 760 other restaurants across the country, including KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut outlets. Long John Silver's calls itself the largest quick-service seafood chain in the United States, and has more than 1,200 units in that country and as far abroad as Singapore and Kuwait. Privately owned Priszm acquired the Canadian Long John Silver's franchises from Louisville-based Yum Brands Inc. The chain made an unsuccessful foray into the Canadian market in the 1970s.
